Our Story: Act 2
After a summer break we re-started the weekly sessions, this time working towards creating a story based on personal experiences within the community. Many improvisations during rehearsals saw the story change several times until, just before Christmas, we were ready to film. We chose the coldest day of the winter to leave the warmth of the Moose Hall to film on location on the streets of Exmouth! Yet the commitment of all the members was strong and we survived!
Since Christmas there has been editing, soundtracks, animations, voice overs and much more to keep us busy. We have also worked hard in creating an interactive workshop that incorporates the film, and which can be taken into schools to raise awareness about issues that concern people with a learning disability. Their abilities to work, to live independently and to have quality social lives are limited not only by their disability but also by the perception the community has of them. Our workshop addresses this perception, working towards an acceptance of 'difference'.
