Before the summer break, the group invented their own 'soap opera' called 'Exmorado'. Every member created their own character and then worked creatively to find storylines to include them all. Eventually these stories were adapted and rehearsed for a 'pilot' episode that we filmed.
Our Story: Act 2
After a summer break we re-started the weekly sessions, this time working towards creating a story based on personal experiences within the community. Many improvisations during rehearsals saw the story change several times until, just before Christmas, we were ready to film. We chose the coldest day of the winter to leave the warmth of the Moose Hall to film on location on the streets of Exmouth! Yet the commitment of all the members was strong and we survived!
Our Story: The Film
Update 'James Story': we will be taking the workshop to Exeter Road School, Exmouth on March 16th and will be sharing our work at the Devon Wide Learning Disability Parliament on March 24 at Wonford Community Centre.
James' Story is a short film based on real experiences about bullying, which developed out of the 'Say No to Bullying' project. This film is offered as part of a 40 minute interactive and fun workshop available to schools in Exmouth and East Devon free of charge.'Simply called 'James Story' it is about a man with a disability who encounters some bullies. Not wanting to give too much away, (in case you haven't seen it yet!) it shows the consequences this has on his life.
Say No to Bullying
Say No.. works with adults with a learning disability enabling them to form their positive and negative experiences of living within our community into a film and performance. This show will address the issues that concern people with a learning disability.
Since the beginning of March 2010 we have been running a regular group at the Moose Hall, Exmouth for adults with learning disabilities; building their confidence in drama, theatre and film-making skills.
