Moving On is our new Project funded for three years by the Big Lottery Reaching Communities programme to work with people who have a learning disability, experience mental health issues or who are carers. The project will:
· create new opportunities for people to take part in creative activities
· help people develop life skills and confidence to take the step into education or training that will have long term benefits
· support our participants to take part in community activities with peer friendship groups that they have made, enabling people to build a long term social life
Moving On will be starting to run new groups later in Spring 2010, we have a very open mind about what these groups will do, and Magic Carpet will be employing a wide variety of experienced artists to deliver these sessions. Once people have joined one of the initial core groups Moving On will be working with them to discover what further activity they might enjoy and benefit from, which is the next layer of the project. This may involve specific arts projects, for example creating a play, or taster sessions of other art forms. Moving On intend using social networking and texting as a way of keeping in touch. There will be opportunities to make new friends and visit places of interest together.

There will be a nominal charge of £1 per session for people to attend each Moving On activity which will be for people in Exeter, or those who can make their way to Exeter.
The project will also support volunteers to gain valuable experience and increase self-confidence to increase the range of learning and employment opportunities available to them.
This project started in February and builds up to running regular groups by the Spring. Clive Essame, our Moving On project worker can be contacted HERE. Clive has a Blog which can be found here... http://movingonmagiccarpet.blogspot.com/
