The mosaic was created  in the Autumn of 2007 in workshops with the following community groups and schools:

  • Family Workshops at St Sidwell’s Centre

  • Newtown Primary School

  • Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education

  • St Leonard’s Primary School

  • Springboard

  • The Haldon Unit

and the following Magic Carpet groups

  • Arts Together

  • ArtSearch

  • Caring for Carers

The project was made possible by a grant from the Local Network Fund. Managed by Devon Community Foundation

 
 
Based in Exeter, but also working regularly in East Devon and beyond, Magic Carpet were established in 1981 to widen participation in the creative arts by disabled and disadvantaged groups of people.
 

We aim to offer quality creative support to those in our community that will benefit from being in warm friendly creative environment.

 

We have ran a range of diverse activities over the last few years including:

  • songwriting sessions with children in a secure unit
  • pantomimes with people with learning disabilities
  • poster project with people who have mental health problems
  • drama and performance with people who have physical disabilities
  • environmental arts with homeless people
  • Animation workshops with a wide range of people
  • Creative Training for people that work in pre-school and play environment.
  • carnivals with children and parents
  • inset training day for teachers 'creativity in the classroom'
  • working with youth clubs to produce murals in a hospital.
  • Workshops at conferences and training events
